What is Semaglutide?

Semaglutide is glucagon-like peptide 1 (GLP-1), a type of medication initially developed to help diabetic patients control blood glucose.

It is FDA approved for patients with type 2 diabetes and for those with chronic obesity leading toward metabolic diseases.

How does it work?

  • Stimulates glucose-dependent insulin release from pancreatic cells.

  • Slows gastric emptying and helps you feel fuller for longer.

  • Inhibits inappropriate post-meal glucagon release, assists with satiety, and decreases overall food intake.

How can I be most successful?

Weight loss is a dynamic, multifactorial process. Semaglutide can help you be successful when added to appropriate diet and lifestyle modifications:

  • Eat whole foods. Focus on nutrient dense foods such as vegetables, fruits, whole-grains, lean proteins, and healthy fats.

  • Avoid or limit highly processed foods such as chips, cookies, cakes, crackers, sodas, pasta and alcohol.

  • Drink plenty of water. Aim for 64 ounces or more per day.

  • Prioritize sleep! Aim for 7-9 hours per night as lack of sleep can increase cravings and lead to overeating.

  • Move your body every day. Take a walk, ride your bike, or join a yoga class. Just find something you enjoy that gets your muscles moving.
